Role Description: Mercor is hiring practicing Primary Care Physicians (MD) on behalf of a leading healthcare AI partner. Clinicians will review, annotate, and evaluate outpatient clinical notes, encounter summaries, and EHR documentation to shape the accuracy, safety, and clinical utility of state-of-the-art medical AI systems.
The Intersection of Clinical Expertise and Modern Artificial Intelligence
The modern healthcare landscape is undergoing an unprecedented digital transformation. As artificial intelligence and machine learning models rapidly expand into clinical environments, the demand for rigorous, practitioner-led validation has never been more critical. Artificial intelligence in healthcare cannot evolve in a vacuum; it requires the nuanced, real-world insight of doctors who spend their days navigating complex outpatient workflows, managing patient panels, and documenting intricate clinical histories.
Mercor’s latest initiative bridges this gap by engaging practicing primary care physicians to evaluate and train frontier healthcare models. By assessing AI-generated documentation against actual clinical standards, participating physicians ensure that technology serves as a reliable ally rather than an administrative burden.
Why This Role Matters for Modern Physicians
For decades, administrative overload and extensive electronic health record (EHR) documentation have been primary drivers of clinician burnout. Physicians often spend more hours typing clinical notes than interacting directly with patients. By working closely with advanced language models and clinical decision-support architectures, physicians in this role directly contribute to building smarter, more streamlined documentation tools designed to reduce cognitive load across the medical industry.
Participating in AI evaluation also offers an exceptional professional development pathway. Clinicians gain firsthand exposure to how frontier technology models process medical data, expanding their analytical portfolio while maintaining complete scheduling flexibility around an active clinical practice.
Core Responsibilities and Daily Impact
Physicians engaged in this project undertake targeted evaluations that directly influence AI model performance and safety parameters:
- Clinical Documentation Review: Thoroughly examine outpatient clinical notes, encounter summaries, and medical records to evaluate accuracy, clinical soundness, and structural completeness.
- Annotation & Structured Feedback: Identify omissions, potential hallucinations, and documentation discrepancies in AI outputs, supplying structured notes for engineering and product teams.
- Guideline Refinement: Contribute expert medical insights to refine annotation standards, edge-case definitions, and evaluation metrics.
Qualifications and Candidate Profile
To maintain the highest tier of medical accuracy, this specialized role requires specific academic and professional backgrounds:
- Medical Degree: Possession of an MD degree with a minimum of 2 years of post-residency experience (5+ years preferred).
- Active Practice: Currently practicing primary care, family medicine, or general internal medicine with regular outpatient documentation responsibilities.
- Multilingual Fluency: Advanced (C1 or above) proficiency in speaking, listening, and writing in English plus at least one additional language (including Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, and others).
- Geographic Location: US-based, with a minimum availability of 10 hours per week.
Flexible Remote Engagement: Work on your own schedule from anywhere in the United States, seamlessly balancing clinical practice with high-impact artificial intelligence research.
Compensation and Professional Growth
Offering competitive pay scaling between $170 and $190 per hour, this contract role recognizes the immense value of specialized medical expertise. Weekly payments are processed smoothly via Stripe or Wise, allowing clinicians to be rewarded transparently for their contributions.
As healthcare systems increasingly adopt AI-driven documentation protocols, early contributors help shape the foundational frameworks that will govern medical technology for decades to come.
Take the Next Step in Your Career
If you are a practicing primary care physician looking to leverage your clinical background, multilingual abilities, and expertise to guide the future of medical technology, this opportunity offers unmatched professional fulfillment and financial reward.
