Shaping the Future of Insurance Intelligence: Why Reinsurance Experts are Entering the AI Revolution
The global insurance and reinsurance markets form the bedrock of financial risk management, operating on decades of sophisticated actuarial science, complex treaty structures, and rigorous regulatory compliance. From quota share and excess of loss agreements to delegated authority arrangements and multi-layered fronting structures, the industry requires deep human intellect to navigate. As artificial intelligence expands into specialized enterprise sectors, top AI research labs are racing to teach advanced models how to reason about complex risk transfer. To achieve this, they need elite practitioners.
Through innovative platforms like Mercor, highly specialized professionals can now pivot their industry expertise into lucrative consulting and AI training roles. The Reinsurance & Program Business Specialist position offers an exceptional $80 per hour (backed by a flat $800 onboarding completion payment) on a fully remote contract basis. For underwriters, brokers, and risk managers looking for flexible, high-paying intellectual challenges outside of traditional corporate settings, this opportunity represents a groundbreaking career avenue.
Comprehensive Job Description & Core Responsibilities
This role is not an ordinary data entry or basic transcription gig. It requires senior-level competence in reinsurance, alternative risk transfer, and program administration. Specialists are tasked with designing complex risk-transfer scenarios, establishing gold-standard benchmarks, and grading AI models on structural logic, financial understanding, and market realism.
Core Responsibilities Include:
- Scenario Design: Construct realistic, intricate scenarios involving treaty and facultative reinsurance, attachment points, exhaustion tables, cessions, recoverables, and bordereaux management.
- Work Product Creation: Develop professional-grade assets such as structure comparisons, submission analyses, contract summaries, program reviews, and counterparty risk assessments.
- Golden Reference Generation: Write definitive reference responses reflecting senior-level reinsurance and program-business standards.
- Model Evaluation & Grading: Assess AI-generated outputs against strict evaluation rubrics covering structural accuracy, contractual logic, economic comprehension, and stakeholder roles.
- Error Analysis: Detect and diagnose AI misunderstandings regarding layers, limits, retentions, commissions, claims control, collateral requirements, and carrier-MGA responsibilities.
- Feedback Delivery: Provide structured, actionable written feedback to research teams to continually refine model performance.
- Collaboration: Engage actively in onboarding office hours, team calibrations, and methodological alignment sessions.
Candidate Qualifications & Professional Requirements
Because artificial intelligence models will eventually assist in evaluating multi-million dollar portfolios and corporate risk arrangements, the qualifying criteria for this role are rigorous.
- Professional Experience: 2+ years of dedicated professional experience in reinsurance, program business, delegated authority, fronting, captive insurance, or alternative risk transfer.
- Market Knowledge: Comprehensive familiarity with treaty reinsurance, facultative placements, MGA/MGU programs, Lloyd’s market operations, captives, or fronted structures.
- Operational Insight: Clear understanding of the economic and operational roles of cedents, reinsurers, brokers, managing general agents, fronting carriers, and insureds.
- Contractual Comprehension: Mastery of how contract wording alters risk transfer, earnings, collateral, claims handling, and statutory reporting.
- Analytical Rigor: Outstanding written reasoning, commercial judgment, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Distinction of Scope: Proven ability to differentiate high-level reinsurance decisions from routine direct underwriting and ordinary claim adjudication.
Bonus Qualifications: Professional designations such as CPCU, ARe, ARM, ACAS, or FCAS; experience with both ceded and assumed reinsurance; expertise in reinsurance broking, treaty wordings, or audit/bordereaux management.
Onboarding Structure, Compensation, and Contract Terms
Mercor structures its independent contractor engagements with transparency, reliability, and fast compensation cycles:
- Onboarding & Initial Payout: All experts receive a flat $800 upon successful completion of the onboarding process (estimated at approximately 10 hours of orientation and training).
- Hourly Transition: Following successful onboarding completion, experts transition directly to the lucrative ongoing rate of $80 per hour.
- Flexible Engagement: Roles require a minimum of 20 hours per week, with opportunities scaling up to 40+ hours depending on project scope.
- Seamless Weekly Payouts: Compensation is distributed weekly through trusted global financial infrastructure like Stripe and Wise.
